Inspiration for Your Christmas Quilting Projects

I don’t know about you, but September is when I really start thinking about Christmas and making plans and prepping. I just don’t want to think about Christmas in June or July! That’s too early, even for quilt-making! :) I’ve compiled a list of 5 Christmas Quilting Projects for those of us who are now only ready to start our Christmas sewing. These projects are neither big nor complicated which means there’s still time to make one (or two) of them!

01. Gloria Table Runner

First up is Gloria, our newest quilt pattern. This table runner features baubles and little Christmas trees finished off with hand-embroidered bows. This table runner uses traditional patchwork techniques to achieve both the baubles and the trees. No fpp or templates! The runner finishes at 17½" x 44½".

Not familiar with hand embroidery? We’ve written a tutorial to help you get started! You can find it here: How to Add Hand Embroidery to a Quilt Top

02. Festive Memory Wall Quilt

This pattern is an easy, beginner-friendly pattern that uses simple construction techniques. It’s a great pattern for big prints as the blocks are quite large. The blocks are also great for directional prints as you can see. We made our Christmas version in the Baby (39" x 42½") but the Throw (62" x 77") would be the perfect practical accessory to your holiday living room decor.

03. In Flight Table Runner with a Christmas Twist

In Flight was our very first quilt pattern. This pattern uses FPP to form the flying geese. In between the flying geese blocks are big rectangles that would be perfect for fussy cutting. In this Mod Christmas version, we've used a bold, red-on-red, stripe that's dotted with gold stars. The finished size of the runner is 19¼" x 43".

04. Giving Treat Gift Bags

Giving Treat was designed to be used as a party favour bag but would also be perfect as a reusable gift bag for small presents such as homemade caramels or sweets. A fun way to add a personal touch to holiday gift-giving would be to add appliqué letters, say of the recipients first initial. Kind of like a monogram, you know? The bags shown below were decorated with our Christmas appliqué templates.

05. Christmas Grace Throw Pillow

Turning our Grace quilt block into a throw pillow would be a super cute and quick project. I was going for a poinsettia look with these mockups. The first one is cream because occasionally you'll find a cream poinsettia, and the second one is a more traditional poinsettia colour combo.
